What is interior architecture?

Interior architecture is the practice of sensitively and innovatively redesigning an existing interior while respecting its historical value. It combines architecture and interior design: replanning layouts, moving walls and openings, and detailing finishes, so the space works technically, meets regulations and suits the way you live or work.

Is the first consultation free?

Yes. Your initial consultation is free. We talk through your property, brief, budget and timeline, explain which approvals you are likely to need, and suggest next steps. You can book online, call 07810 521710 or send a WhatsApp message, and there is no obligation to go further.

How much do your services cost?

There is no fixed price list because every project is different in size, condition and scope. After the free initial consultation, Natalia sets out what is included and the fee for your project, so you can decide before committing. We work to any budget and will tell you honestly what it can achieve.

Do you take on small projects?

Yes — no project is too big or too small. We have redesigned single bathrooms and studio kitchens as well as delivering a listed bath house, a council office and a restaurant. Smaller projects receive the same care with drawings, budget and site coordination as larger ones.

Do you speak Russian?

Yes. Natalia speaks both English and Russian and provides all services in either language, from the first consultation to drawings, meetings with builders and project management. This is especially helpful for international clients and investors buying or renovating property in London who prefer to discuss details in Russian.

Planning and approvals

Planning and approvals

Do I need planning permission for an extension?

Not always. Many single-storey rear extensions to houses fall under permitted development and need no planning application. Flats and maisonettes have no permitted development rights, and listed buildings and many conservation areas face extra limits. Building regulations approval is almost always required. We check your property before any design work begins.

How long does a lawful development certificate take?

Councils aim to decide within eight weeks, so allow eight to ten weeks. You need drawings of the existing building, drawings of the proposed building, and a site plan and location plan so the council can find your property and check which rules apply. We prepare and submit all of these.

Can you get permission to alter a listed building?

Yes. Natalia secured permission to replace an original sash window with a French door to a roof terrace on a Grade II listed building constructed in 1897. She produced detailed drawings and liaised with the local authority. The Bath House also required approvals for works within a listed building.

Do I need building regulations approval?

Almost certainly, if you are extending, converting a loft, moving structural walls, adding bathrooms or changing a building’s use. Building regulations are minimum standards for the design, construction and alteration of virtually every building, and apply even when planning permission is not needed. We prepare the drawings and liaise with building control.

Can a shop be turned into a home?

Often, yes, depending on the building and location. Some conversions need full planning permission; others can use prior approval under permitted development. We converted a former electrical shop into a residential property, handling the building search, planning, change of use, building control documents and the complete architectural and interior design.

Projects and delivery

Projects and delivery

Do you have your own builders?

Yes. Natalia works with a team of builders for projects of any size, from bathroom revamps to whole-house renovations, and manages them on your behalf. If you already have a contractor you trust, we can work with them instead and still coordinate drawings, budget, programme and site visits through to completion.

What does a typical interior design project include?

A typical project includes measuring and photographing the space, agreeing scope and size, concept design with layout and mood boards, 3D designs with furniture and fabrics, and a design presentation for your sign-off. We can then source and order everything and manage installation so the finished room matches the approved design.

Which areas do you cover?

Our studio is at Erasmus Street in Westminster, SW1P, and we work across central and greater London, including Pimlico, Belgravia, Chelsea, Victoria and Blackheath. We have also delivered projects in Northampton, Northamptonshire, Basingstoke and Italy, so we are happy to discuss work further afield, including for overseas clients.

Can you help me add value to an investment property?

Yes. The most reliable way is to add rooms. For one client we turned a two-bedroom flat into a three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment by adding a bedroom and dividing one bathroom into two, increasing its value and enabling refinancing. We also help investors find suitable buildings and secure permissions.
